From the seventies until today, from the birth of the first industrial group to the expansions of the 2000s, these are the main stages of this 50-year history. A journey of vision, passion and innovation that has led the company to achieve excellence in the production of frozen food.
From the 70s to the 80s
In 1970, GIAT (Gruppo Industrie Alimentari Tenuta) was founded for the storage of frozen products. With Survel (frozen vegetables and legumes), Antonio Tenuta created the process of freezing and peeling tomatoes. In 1977, the innovative processing technique was patented and recognized in many countries of the world, including the USA, Northern Europe, Japan, Israel and Sudan. The following decade saw the beginning of a phase that celebrates the link between the company and the local territory. The birth of the Cotrapa 2000 agricultural cooperative and the collaboration between Antonio Tenuta and Findus resulted in typical Mediterranean vegetables, grilled and frozen.
From the 90s to the 2000s
In the 1990s, we became strategic partners of leading companies in the frozen food sector. We launched the production of grilled vegetables (currently the company's flagship product), bringing traditional flavours and ingredients to Italian tables. The "Il Mediterraneo a Tavola" brand targets large industries as well as the catering and retail sectors, with specialities of the Mediterranean diet in the form of side dishes, main courses, soups and pasta dishes.
Gias Spa is born
In 2000, Gias spa was born from the merger of Giat and Survel. In the following years we launched the production of vegetables cooked at low temperatures and introduced the brands "Voglia di Gusto" and "Come una volta". We expanded the offerings thanks to new production methods, with the introduction of a steamed vegetable line, which enhances local crops such as Calabrian broccoli, asparagus, and the Tropea red onion.
Today, Gias spa is an important point of reference for many PLs and leading brands in the sector and in retail, thanks to the ability to develop new ranges, all at the high levels of quality and reliability that we have achieved. Product and process innovation and ability to constantly adapt to market demands: these are the fundamental aspects that have always defined our company.
